This early Hofner 126 Club 50 model –
Features and specs
Weight : 4 lbs ( approx 1.8kg ) Size: 13 inch wide, 2 inch thick
Description: Light weight-hollow, arched top, flat-back, single-cutaway One-piece spruce ‘carved’ top with a one-piece maple back. The back and sides of the body are lightly figured maple and triple-bound bound in black/white/black. Tortoise celluloid heel-cap. Three-piece maple neck with a scale length of 24 1/4 inches, a nut width of just under 1 5/8 inches and a thick ‘baseball-bat’ profile. A thick slab rosewood fretboard with ‘triple-layer’ nut, ‘zero’ fret and 22 original medium frets with inlaid pearl dot position markers. The neck is pre-truss rod but being this thick profile it is dead straight and without fault. The frets show medium wear but don’t require any immediate attention. The neck angle is very good and does not require a neck reset. Also features a great looking tortoise shell and mother-of-pearl faceplate. Tuners are original 3 per side strip type but one tuner shaft has a bit of a bend and replaced tuner button
Two hand made bobbin-less single-coil pickups, rosewood encased with black celluloid tops. On this guitar the neck pickup is black top, the bridge is black white top. Four controls, two volume and two tone, oval tortoiseshell plate edged in white, and two on off switches. Hofner gold capped radio knobs
Hofner ebony bridge. Hofner ‘trapeze’ tailpiece.
Currently serviced and set up with 10-46 Daddario strings.
The pots have been replaced and the guitar rewired for clean reliable playability. No crackling and all functioning correctly.
The playability and sound is very good with the hollow-body giving a unique sound and tone. The guitar does show some play wear and expected buckle rash on the back but such a nice rare vintage Hofner is worthy of being in any collection.
- Comes with modern quality hardcase.
