1981 Vintage 1981 MARTIN HD-28 Custom acoustic guitar Vintage V neck. Herringbone purfling, grained ivoroid binding. Structurally and tonally very good and a reliable guitar for gigging and recording. Fishman pickup Cosmetically player worn., crazed lacquer but not damaged. Hiscox case. VGC A great deal of work was done on restoring and improving this guitar approximately 10 years ago by the very fine, high end, quality guitar maker located in Brisbane Qld, Chris Melville. Work included, neck reset, refret with jumbo frets, bone saddle, bone nut, install Fishman natural 2 pickup with endpin output socket. Make and install D-35 bridge plate (interior) This has been a professionally used guitar for live and recording work. Guaranteed player satisfaction for quality tone and playability. NOTE: Tortoise guard. Beautiful herringbone purfling with grained celluloid binding.
There are a couple of small chips and compressions to the edge of the soundhole from having a soundhole pick fitting and used during it’s early years.
Fishman endpin output socket installed with Fishman Natural 2 pickup..
The next two photos show lacquer reaction and wear on the lower front and side bout.
The previous owner informs me this is a mixture of play wear and a particular outdoor gig in the tropics where extra insect repellent was required only to be surprised later that this had affected this area on the guitar.
This does not affect playability and could actually be improved with some delicate detailing and polishing.
This next photo shows the neck block serial number and the word CUSTOM.
This number indicates the guitar was made in 1981
Original tuners, working well, Headstock has no damage or cracks to the neck headstock area. A clean bill of health.
Minor play wear and marks to the rear of the neck.
